Over
50% of London's black taxis are now zero-emission capable,
primarily using LEVC TX vehicles.
2024 Taxi Survey:
- 29% said that they are
considering switching to an EV with a further 25% still
undecided
- 56% of respondents cited
cost factors in preventing them from switching
- Although the most frequently
mentioned issues was range, only 15% considered this
to be a deciding factor in switching.
- 26% said they would be
incentivised to switch to an EV if the cost of charging
was discounted (a 25% discount already exists, see
below)
- A further 19% would like
to see reduced licence fee for EVs and 12% wanted a
discounted resident permit fee (a low emission discount of 57%
already exists)
- The majority of respondents
(76%) were against dedicated EV ranks.
EV Advantages:
- Second-hand EV
market: Booming, with sales up 90%
year-over-year.
- Running costs:
Servicing and
maintenance are significantly cheaper due to fewer moving parts
(around 20, compared to 200 ICE) and regenerative braking (drum
brakes) .
- Performance:
EVs often
outperform ICE vehicles in acceleration, handling, and overall
driving experience.
- Charging costs:
Home charging can
be as low as 3p per mile, compared to 19p for ICE. On-street L/C
chargers are 14p per mile, with a 25% discount for e-taxis at
rapids.
